To check the model or serial number of your mac simply click on the Apple logo in the top left corner of the menu bar and then hold down the option key. You should notice the About This Mac changes to become System Information. Click on it, and here under Hardware is both your model number and the serial number. If you’re struggling to read the fairly small text, or you’re not sure whether the ‘O’ is in fact a zero, you can always have your Mac speak the serial number to you by clicking on File and choosing Speak Serial Number. If you’re only interested in finding the serial number, then there’s no need to hold down the option key and open System Information. Instead, About This Mac will display the serial number and some other useful information, such as what version of Mac OS you’re running.
