I'm back with another Studio Ghibli video analysis, this time I'll be describing how Princess Mononoke teaches you to see with unclouded eyes, perhaps one of the most important lessons in life.

But anyway, Princess Mononoke is a gem of a movie, and for me, out of all the Studio Ghibli movies, Princess Mononoke has by far the best moral. It teaches you that the world isn't inherently good or evil, it has much more substance in it. And I think this is the most purest movie you'll watch in the sense of how true it is to the real world.

When I watched this movie for the first time, I didn't know what to expect, but in typical Studio Ghibli fashion, Hayao Miyazaki created a masterpiece, that conveyed an elegant but fundamental lesson. Normally in movies, what we come across is a typical duality of good and evil, but after watching Princess Mononoke, you don't really know who the actual evil is, because there isn't one, at least not explicitly.

We observe the movie unfold through Prince Ashitaka, a noble and brave young prince, who doesn't jump to conclusions, but rather, looks at things from both sides, and makes decisions without prejudice. We should all strive to see the world with unclouded eyes, and as Miyazaki puts it, “You must see with eyes unclouded by hate. See the good in that which is evil, and the evil in that which is good. Pledge yourself to neither side, but vow instead to preserve the balance that exists between the two.”

Studio Ghibli movies teaches you many important lessons in life, but I believe Princess Mononoke's message is something true and vastly universal, that life doesn't revolve around dualitites, and this is perhaps one of the most important lessons in life.
