Typically, Volkswagens imported to the United States are designed for Europe and then adapted to out tastes. But this one is for us: It’s big and full of seats and cupholders; just how we like them. It’s also assembled in Tennessee where it was born for the 2018 model year. It seats up to 7 and goes head-to-head with the likes of the Chevy Traverse, Ford Explorer and Toyota Highlander. Its engine is sourced from Mexico and its 8-speed transmission from Japan but the fahrvergnugen is still here. Not that driving enjoyment is a top priority of shoppers for such vehicles but it’s good to know the Atlas feels like a VW from behind the wheel.
