Consumer Reports' annual reliability survey results are in, and Mazda is the most reliable in the world.

Rankings are calculated on a 0-to-100-point scale by averaging the predicted reliability scores for all models on which Consumer Reports has enough data. It also requires "sufficient survey data for two or more models" for a brand to be included. So, if your brand or model isn't included in the full results, that's why.

Mazda's victory seems like a minor coup over the Toyota/Lexus dynasty that's dominated the list up to last year, but one differentiating factor worth pointing out is Mazda's conventional powertrains (i.e. normally aspirated engines) and lack of electrified models.

Could these ratings be punishing those brands focusing on developing new technology and pushing the EV envelope? Tesla's second-to-last ratings seems to support that, although the top-ranked Toyota Prius Prime suggests there's hope for EVs.
