Today I'm talking about the Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac All-Terrain Tire and my experience with them on my RAM 1500 off-road in the winter on snow and ice. I think they are a fantastic choice of tire for anybody who lives in a climate where a few months of the year there will be snow on the ground.

In the summer the DuraTracs provide a good bite in mud and gravel and will be able to handle a lot of off-road situations. they are obviously not a dedicated mud tire of desert runner tire so there are going to be better options if you seriously plan on going off-road. But for the average off-road enthusiast these tires will provide a lot of grip in any situations.

But where these tires shine is in the winter. The Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs are highly rated for winter use for both snow and ice. firstly because of the many sipes on all the tire lugs providing lots of additional traction on slippery roads. Also because of the Tractive Technology center tread pattern, providing an aggressively angular tread pattern aiding in displacing snow and providing additional traction in slippery conditions. therefore allowing these tires to be winter rated and have the winter rated Snowflake letting people know they are winter safe.

Lastly, dedicated winter tires will provide more traction on packed snow and ice because of the much smaller lug patterns and many more sipes. as well as having a different rubber compound designed specifically for cold weather performance. But, In deep snow dedicated winter tires tend not to fare as well as the DuraTracs because of the smaller tread pattern not being as efficient to move the deep snow. Whereas the DuraTracs have a larger lug pattern providing excellent deep snow performance while still providing good packed snow and ice traction.

It all comes down to what you need and what weather conditions you plan on driving in. If you are like me and enjoy the odd off-roading in the summer and still want to have great traction in all winter conditions these Goodyear Wrangler DuraTracs are a great tire.
