NEW - Imaging Edge Webcam for Mac Tutorial and Review:    • Imaging Edge Webcam (Mac) - How to us...

Tested on a Sony a7 III - Sony released Imaging Edge Webcam, an app that lets us use most recent Sony cameras as a USB webcam for things like Zoom and OBS.

It’s a small 6MB download, and once you install it, you can use it as a source in OBS, Zoom, the camera app in Windows 10, or pretty much anything that supports webcams.

It supports a lot more cameras than you’d think, even some of the older models like the a7II. I’ve been using it with the a7III and it works great.

The resolution is 1024x576 which sounds low, but still looks great. Way better than any standalone or built-in webcam.

It doesn’t use audio from the camera, so you’ll have to plug in a separate microphone or use a built-in laptop mic.

If your camera supports it, like the a7iii does, it can charge it somewhat while you’re using it. On most Sony cameras, the USB port won’t deliver enough power to keep it topped off, but it drastically reduces battery drain. It shouldn’t be a problem unless you’re using it for hours on end, I think for most people it’ll be fine. If you need it for a longer stream, there are AC adapters you can get that plug into the battery port.
