Nima Arkani-Hamed, Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics

--------

In this lecture series theoretical physicist Nima Arkani-Hamed discusses a varied range of topics including graduate school considerations, length scales, radical conservatism vs. conservative radicalism, natural (planck) units, order of magnitude calculations from physical constants as well as relativistic, quantum mechanical and cosmological phenomena.

This video is an amalgamation of four lectures. It contains the first two lectures from a series entitled "Research Skills" and the first two lectures from a series entitled "Theoretical Physics" given at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in 2009 and 2010, respectively.

Note: The audio and chalkboard visuals from Research Skills 1a are not in sync due to the source material. However, the audio is (roughly) in sync with the visuals of the speaker. This lecture works very well as purely audio and in my opinion does not greatly suffer from this lack of synchronicity.

Also note: There is some overlap of material in "Research Skills 1a" and "Theoretical Physics 1a". However, I consider each lecture distinct enough to justify including both.

Final note: These are not the complete lecture series. Find the remainder of "Research Skills" and "Theoretical Physics" at the URL below.
