When is a BMW not a BMW? When it's front wheel drive according to the purists. Reality is, as always, a bit more nuanced. Having the 2-Series Gran Coupe in the lineup may offend some, but it allowed the 3-Series to focus more on BMW's core values in an odd way. By relieving the 3-Series from carrying the entry-level burden of the brand it has become more premium, more expensive, and likely more profitable at the same time. Meanwhile folks that just want an inexpensive BMW with AWD have a car made just for them. It's a win-win. Or is it?
