BlackSeaRC presents a further video in a series looking at the Cross-RC EMO AT4V 1:10 scale radio controlled off-road crawler kit with pick-up truck body. In this short video, the AT4V is demonstrated in snowy conditions. Testing was planned to be more comprehensive but during the initial stages of testing, the AT4V experienced technical issues.

This required a partial strip-down of the chassis to remove the motor, gearbox and slipper clutch assembly. To get to these necessitated removing the battery tray and front diff-lock servo, front wheel and wheel arch liner, disconnecting the gear-shift servo, disconnecting the transfer case drive shaft and removing the fixings for the front cross-member to allow the chassis rails to be opened up. After taking out the gearbox assembly, it was opened up to investigate the cause of the problem. The fault was traced to the slipper clutch that had come loose. The assembly of the slipper clutch is actually the first stage in the kit build and as you can see, it is not easily accessible.

The manual gives two settings for the slipper clutch adjustment. Fully tighten and then loosen 1.75 turns (2S LiPo) or 1.5 turns (3S LiPo). I recommend loosening just 1 turn to prevent the issues I experienced (although the driveline will be more highly stressed).

Whilst trying to rectify this issue, there was a significant snow fall on the Black Sea coast leading to a major power cut. Unfortunately, this has prevented the continuation of testing to date but does give the opportunity to show some amazing images of beautiful snowy scenery.
