The Fiat 500X is the latest addition to the growing 500 range. Its good looking and promises economy with space to stretch out, however, what's it like on the road?
The Fiat 500x is a stylish addition to the crossover class and will definitely appeal to a wide range of buyers, offering some stiff competition to the likes of the Nissan Juke, the Renault Captur and the MINI Countryman.
Theres no doubt the retro Fiat 500 (DLGC) has been an outstanding success for Fiat and it’s no wonder they are desperate to stretch the car’s appeal to more models and a larger target market. Fiat hopes this new 500X will strike the right balance of being an up-scaled 500 but also a credible crossover in its own right.
Under the bonnet, the most significant changes include the introduction of two new turbocharged 'Firefly' petrol engines, a three-cylinder 118bhp 1.0-litre and 148bhp 1.3-litre automatic, which replaced the entry-level 108bhp 1.6-litre E-Torq in the engine range. Its a welcome note to learn that Fiat no longer offers a diesel engine variant for the 500X.
Trim levels now consist of Urban, City Cross, and Sport, none of which are poorly equipped. Urban trim includes air-conditioning, cruise control, 16-inch alloy wheels and a seven-inch Uconnect infotainment system with DAB radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The City Cross comes with cornering front fog lights, body-coloured door mirrors, satin chrome door handles and a 3.5-inch digital instrument cluster.and the range-topping 500X Sport adds a dual chrome exhaust, Alcantara interior materials, black 18-inch wheels and sportier bumpers.
