This is a Motormouth couple car review of the top-5 subcompact SUVs for the 2023 model year. For 2024, the Kia Seltos gets a power bump to 195 horsepower, 20 horsepower more. The Volkswagen Taos has a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. FWD models have an 8-speed automatic transmission and AWD models a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. The Mazda CX-30 has three powertrain options, a 2L 4-cylinder with a 6-speed automatic transmission, 155 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque. In the US, this engine is no longer available. The second option for the Mazda CX-30 is a 2.5L 4-cylinder with 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. There is a turbocharged variant of this engine with 256 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque on premium fuel. If you use regular fuel, you’ll get a little less power, 227 horsepower & 310 lb-ft of torque. The Mazda CX-30 is standard AWD. The Toyota Corolla Cross has two powertrain options, a 2L 4-cylinder engine matched with a CVT, 169 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque. FWD and AWD options are available. A Hybrid with a 2L 4-cylinder and 3 electric motors with 194 combined horsepower and standard AWD. The Subaru Crosstrek has three powertrain options, the base engine is a 2L 4-cylinder matched to a CVT, 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. The second option is a more powerful 2.5L 4-cylinder, 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque. Standard AWD
