On April 28, 2024, I headed down to Waterville with info that 305 and 383 were paired up on Sappi-3 (L068). Knowing that the old 300 series GP40's were on their last legs, I decided to head down and chase. Having been under the assumption that 305 was the last running Guilford GP40 upon beginning my chase, I was pleasantly surprised to find 315 switching in the yard. Apparently it had been reactivated by Waterville shops earlier that day, and it served it's first assignment back in service as Sappi arrived. It is quite something to be able to photograph a trio of 300's in the same frame, especially with their numbered days. In the past few months, 307 and 310 have both fallen and 316 has been returned from B&E in an unknown condition, all residing around the backshops at Waterville. 319, 330, and 354 are apparently slated for scrapping, heavily stripped down. 345 and 381 still serve B&E in East Deerfield, so I cannot comment on their condition currently. Simply put, they are beginning to dwindle, so photograph them when you can!
