And in further tribute to John Sterling on the occasion of his retirement, here is Game 1 of the 1996 ALCS, the Jeffrey Maier game that is notable in being the first time that Sterling spontaneously gave us a signature home run call for a player ("Bern Baby Burn!") when Bernie Williams hit a walk-off homer, and also the first known sustained "THHHEEEE Yankees win!" (these spontaneous reactions to a magical moment in the first Yankee championship season in 18 years is why I always loved them and why critics who ripped them I felt then and now were off-base).
