When I started with my first garden 3 years ago I was pretty lost when it came to lights and how I was supposed to get things started indoors. I think in the first year I ended up using 3 single housed compact fluorescent lights, which produced quite possibly the "leggiest" plants ever grown! But in the end it did produce some plants that I was able to grow out that summer. Now that I have a few more years of gardening under my belt, I thought it was time to share my new favorite lighting set up for starting seeds indoors. I have a few top reasons why I believe this is quite possibly the best set up for the home gardener or small scale grower looking to get plants started early indoors. The reasons I believe these are so great are the cost to purchase (under $50), cost to operate (LED vs CFL), growing potential and life of the set up (50,000 hrs). I will mention that while this is a great option for starting seeds, this is not the set up for taking plants all the way to the flowering stages. Which is perfect for me and my purposes of starting seeds indoors to get an early start on my growing season.
