“We recognise that these are very dangerous times for the region but it's a very dangerous time for the people in Gaza.”
A new "freedom flotilla" is ready to set sail for Gaza from the Turkish port of Tuzla in an attempt to get through the Israeli blockade and bring much needed aid to the population of the Palestinian territory.
The Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) plans to sail at the end of April, with multiple vessels carrying 5,500 tons of humanitarian aid and hundreds of international human rights observers.
This initiative evokes memories of the Mavi Marmara incident in 2010 when an attempt to break the Israeli siege on Gaza resulted in the deaths of ten people after the Israeli army raided the ship in international waters.
