This is no doubt some Bulletproof waterproofing 💥💥 Ardex 8+9 is a roll on liquid waterproofing. I consider it "foolproof" since it seal anything you apply to and it's hard to screw it up....simply brush & roll it on 👊. For this basement bathroom I wanted a curbless entry into the shower. Adding a new bathroom required a whole new plumbing system, which in turn required removal of the concrete floor. This made it easy to create the curbless shower with a mud bed. Using a bonding flange drain system like FLOFX makes this easy, but you have to waterproof the mortar bed. That's where Ardex 8+9 comes in. Liquid waterproofing is the easiest way to go in my mind.
