Quarter finals at Wimbledon as a 18-year -old, world number 17 at the age of 23, now 30 years old, world number 344, playing Challengers and Futures week in week out, but seemingly happier than ever.

I could be misinterpreting the great man, however after getting to know him better over the last few weeks I would say Bernard Tomic is less fussed about counting his millions but rather is finding a playful enjoyment in the once overwhelming prospect of playing tennis.

Not many have reached the heights in tennis like Bernie has, and even less have felt the pressure of the initial trajectory he once rode.

Like any story with great peaks, there usually is an eventual trough. In Bernies case, there’s been a re-calibration of values and a refreshingly comedic and upbeat attitude.

Personally, I am warmed to see him enjoying competing and finding his own re-association with the sport. I was thoroughly entertained conversing with him and look forward to doing it again. Definitely a few more topics to cover in future but this was a great start.
