Billy Collins Jr. was born in the state of Tennessee, and from a young age, his fate was sealed because his father was a professional boxer. Under his father's guidance, Billy began to master the language of boxing.

By the age of 21, Billy was already an excellent boxer with a promising future, boasting 14 victories in the professional arena, 11 of which were by knockout. The public adored him and dubbed him "Irish," the nickname Billy had earned. He was on his way to a title fight, but on June 16, 1983, a Puerto Rican, Luis Resto, stood in his path – a two-time Golden Gloves champion and a formidable middleweight with ambitions.

However, Resto wasn't the central figure in this drama; it was his trainer, Panama Lewis, who had a reputation for being a tough coach willing to do anything for his fighters to win. Rumors circulated that Lewis allegedly tampered with his boxers' water, adding asthma medicine that acted as a performance enhancer, but nothing could be proven.
