Old gravels and ancient rivers of gold are a very important and productive sources of gold for individual prospectors and yet they are often not well understood. Perhaps the biggest thing is that these gravels, when they are still in their original place, are often virgin and undisturbed - or at least parts of them are. The means gold that was originally deposited within them long ago is still there and has not been extracted by previous miners. That is why finding and working them is such a great opportunity for the individual prospector.
