In this video I discuss how to avoid craigslist rental scams and also includes signs of craigslist scams. Craigslist is a wonderful site to buy goods and services but has been infiltrated by fraudsters. You therefore need to be on the lookout for such things to avoid losing your hard earned cash.

How do I stop getting scammed on Craigslist Apartments?-How to Tell if a Rental is Legitimate
1. Do not rush and Do Not Be Rushed
Most people who fall victim to Craigslist rental scammers are usually people in a hurry to find a place to rent.

When you are in a hurry you fail to take the necessary precautions to protect yourself.

Therefore don’t be in a hurry take your time to analyze everything.

You can do this by making sure that, if possible, you physically view all the properties you are being offered.

One also needs to get to know the person who is offering you any property.

It is much better to meet the property owner or estate agent in person if you can.

Alternatively, call them and not just rely on emails. Most scammers prefer to use emails.

2. Be protective of your personal information
Do not release your personal information until you are very sure of the person you are dealing with.

If a landlord is demanding a lot of personal information before you have even talked to them or viewed the property be wary.

This is especially true if the landlord is asking for a credit report upfront or even an application fee before viewing the property.

Never send them money before you have seen the property itself unless you are dealing with a company that is well known and established.

Even where the company is established the normal practice is for the tenant to view the property first.

3. Google the Property! Beware of Fake Photos!
