Health by CHOCOLATE! Yep, I said it! Chocolate that is good for you! One of the most common questions I get when women begin my fat loss plans is actually “can I still eat chocolate?” (and of course, “can I still drink a glass of wine?!” lol). I always say yes. Truth is, there are SO many health benefits that can come from chocolate (it could actually even pass as a superfood maybe)…as long as you are eating the right kind of chocolate – because there is a lot that can go WRONG with chocolate, too. I had Jonahtan on from my personal favorite chocolate company Living Ratio to tell us all about what we should be looking for in our chocolate.

At a point when Jonathon was struggling majorly with his health as a result of mold exposure, he ventured out to master healing himself. He always LOVED eating chocolate and would turn to it for some energy but any tiny amount of sugar during his healing process, would make him inflamed, tired, exhausted, etc. BUT he loved chocolate and didn’t want to give it up! This is what truly inspired him to find a way to make HEALTHY chocolate that he could eat, reap the benefits of, and not feel awful afterwards. Enter: Living Ratio.

Benefits of Good Chocolate and Cacao
Chocolate is high in magnesium AND it’s one of the highest antioxidant foods out there – even higher than blueberries! It also has a bunch of neurotransmitter-benefiting compounds that are similar to caffeine but aren’t hard on your system. Chocolate provides a number of compounds that provide ALL of the “bliss” molecules.

What Makes Chocolate Unhealthy for You?
Most chocolate is VERY processed – especially if you buy it from the store. The percentage of chocolate in a bar means there is that much “chocolate” in the bar, and the rest are fillers. For example, if it’s 55% cacao, it’s 45% fillers.

In addition, chocolate is actually a fermented food. The beans are fermented for about 3 days and during that is when the bitterness is eliminated. However, when you are working on a large scale, it’s very easy to overlook the fermentation process and have it be susceptible to mold. The larger the manufacturing, the larger that possibility of mold is.

Something else that can make chocolate not good for you is that A LOT of it has heavy metals in it based on the soil it is being grown in.

What About Sweeteners in Chocolate?
Living Ratio will use Stevia, Monkfruit, Erythritol in their chocolates. Stevia is a safe, natural, plant-sweetener. Monkfruit is the best option. Erythritol has gotten a bad wrap, but is actually a natural metabolite in your body and is found in fruits, too.

Why Do I Love Living Ratio?
This is HEALTHY chocolate. Living Ratio Chocolate Truffles are organic, sugar-free, and packed full of raw plant foods and super-herbs like cherries, vanilla bean, turmeric, and reishi mushroom. Not to mention they are packed with magnesium and antioxidants. Yep, they’re DELICIOUS, HEALTHY, ethically sourced, and great for those who still have a sweet tooth even if they want to be healthy!

In addition to their truffles, they also have a calming Cacao Powder called Cacao Calm that has a unique blend of ingredients like functional mushrooms and ashwagandha that enhance memory and focus, reduce stress and anxiety, and help your immune system! This blend has more concentrated active ingredients than all of the other mushroom drinks out there and it doesn’t even taste herbal! It’s magic.

The ONE WARNING? You MAY want to eat the whole box lol
