Hyundai's Ioniq 5 N Charges Up Pikes Peak for Electric Victories

Get ready for a jolt of electricity at Pikes Peak! Hyundai is bringing its high-performance Ioniq 5 N to the legendary hill climb, aiming to set new electric vehicle records.

This isn't just about bragging rights. While the Ioniq 5 N boasts a mighty 641 horsepower, Hyundai wants to showcase its capabilities to potential buyers. Three Ioniq 5 N variants will tackle the mountain: two near-stock and one extensively modified.

"Pikes Peak has been a testing ground for Hyundai's innovations since 1992," says Till Wartenburg, head of N Brand and Motorsport. "The Ioniq 5 N embodies that spirit for high-performance electric vehicles."

Two production-spec Ioniq 5 N models, piloted by racing veterans Paul Dallenbach (an 11-time Pikes Peak winner) and Ron Zaras, will chase the Electric Production SUV/Crossover record. These vehicles will be mostly showroom-ready, with essential safety upgrades like a roll cage, fire suppression, and a racing seat.

The real mystery lies in the third, heavily modified Ioniq 5 N. Details are scarce, but Hyundai promises a reveal before the Nürburgring 24-hour race on May 30th. Two drivers will take the wheel for this record attempt: Robin Shute, the reigning Pikes Peak champion, and Dani Sordo from Hyundai's World Rally Championship team.
