You know the story: Fox pressured Cameron to shorten the movie to fit more showings in per day. That included dropping 5 minutes from the credits, using tiny letters that zoomed by. However, most home video releases of the theatrical version actually include the 10-minute credits with bigger print and different music, including the widescreen DVD and laserdisc. The only home video copy I've seen with the original credits is THIS pan-and-scan VHS tape, finally converted and sounding pretty good (SP hi-fi of course). If we EVER get a Blu-ray release of the film, I really hope it includes both versions of the movie AND the credits! Pretty please with black plastic balls on top?

Notes:
-That stutter as the credits start is on the tape, can't say for sure why! (Spliced back in at Fox?)
-This mostly contains the widescreen image shape if you crop it yourself, but as you can see, there are shifts in vertical alignment, so I've left it as it is.
-The FBI warning pops up before the audio has fully faded out!

This is a companion to a capture of a 35mm film print, which you can see for reference and comparison here:    • The Abyss original short credits with...
