On April 29, 1974, President Richard Nixon addressed the nation from the White House and announced the release of edited transcripts of secretly taped conversations about the Watergate scandal. "I want there to be no question remaining about the fact that the president has nothing to hide in this matter," Nixon said in the speech. On Aug. 8, 1974, Nixon announced his resignation from office.
