This is the all new BMW X1 M35i. The X1 has not been refreshed since 2018, until 2023 when they introduced the new X1, along with the X2 in 2024. A year after introducing the all new X1, things changed. BMW’s M division came up with something, and that was tuning the X1 to have more power, and in that case, it was named the X1 M35i. It now has the same power as the X2 M35i that I reviewed a few weeks ago.



Speaking of tuning, let’s get to what BMW M has tuned on this new X1 M35i. The base X1 had only over 220 horsepower. The M version now has 300 hp, and around 400 newton meters of torque, which is roughly 295 pound-feet of torque. That comes from the same 2.0L 4 cylinder turbo engine in the regular X1. There is also the M sport wheels customized to have 5 twin triangular spoke wheels, or you can go down a notch with the more classic looking 5 twin spoke wheels with to triangle spokes at each end. The headlights are also darkened out a little bit more than the standard X1. The final thing they have improved on the exterior is that they put dual exhausts on each back end, compared to the single exhaust they put on the regular X1 28i.



Considering the interior, there are still some critical points to point out. The connected screen has the newest iDrive 8 interface, but with a smaller screen than the other new models with the iDrive 8 have, which is a way bigger screen with perpendicular sides. This screen is the same screen that is on the X2. They also upgraded the steering wheel, so now, it has 3 spokes on it instead of 2 spokes on the regular X1. The seats are also upgraded with an additional M badge that lights up. There is also an option to get red seats, representing the car’s sportiness.




Pricing of the new X1 M35i will unsurprisingly start at a higher price than the normal X1, at $57,500 CAD ($42,800 USD), which is over $10,000 CAD more than the normal X1, but around $2,000 CAD less than the X2 M35i. The new X1 M35i went on sale in mid 2023.
