1932 Alvis 12/60 TL Four Seat Sports Tourer

Commencing production in 1923 and making a successful competition debut the same year, the Alvis 12/50 was to become highly regarded by the sporting motorists of the period.

Noted for its good handling characteristics, brisk performance and robust qualities, the 12/50 evolved through various series and was joined in 1931 by a more powerful version - the 12/60.  This version, designated ‘TL’, was powered by a twin carburettor engine of 1645cc, developing 56 bhp and, as before, saloon, sports tourer and ‘beetle back’ two-seater variants were available.

When road tested by ‘Motor Sport’ magazine in 1931, an impressive top speed of almost 80 mph was achieved.

The 12/60 we offer here is a TL Sports Tourer presented in the colour scheme of black with green leather and matching wheels it was delivered in when supplied by Galt Ltd of Glasgow on 2nd May 1932.

The car has the original Cross & Ellis Sports Tourer coachwork and is in exceptionally good all-round order.  The interior trim is excellent and the weather equipment includes a rear Auster screen. The engine was rebuilt approximately 15 years ago by Red Triangle, with a NOS cam and crankshaft and the engine underwent top end work by Earley Engineering several years later. Both specialists have maintained the car during past ownerships. The car is well shod, running on Blockley tyres and has formed part of our own personal stable for just over two years.

The weather equipment, which includes a tonneau cover is all in excellent order. The side screens all fit well.

A considerable number of bills etc are on file, together with a copy of the original Factory build record. There are also notes on maintenance dating back to 1950.

A fine Post Vintage Alvis in all respects.
