"When the fire's burned, when the wind has blown, when the water's dried, you'll still find stone... my heart of stone."

Madam Yu appreciation day! I cannot tell, how happy I was when this tribute got a big support in the last voting - I always wanted to create something about Madam Yu, and it was good to see, some of my followers want a tribute for her as much as I do. It took a bit long, but I am finally finished, and I am quite happy with how it turned out.
I always found Madam Yu one of the most interesting characters of MDZS, and I definitely count her among my favourites. She had a hard time with the adaptations - especially in the web series, she is very much portrayed as the evil stepmother for Wei Wuxian, who does not realise how much her husband loves her, and cares for her son... but in the novel, her problems are true. Her husband is very neglectful with his children, and often ignores her as well - she is basically the one leading the sect, trying to be the mother to Jiang Cheng, fighting and teaching, while constantly trying to keep her head up, and keep everything inside.
This song (Heart of Stone) from the Six Musical is the song of Jane Seymour - it portrays a woman who was in love with a man who was (in Henry's case) dangerous and unpredictable, and about whom she knew that sees her as much as a political tool as a woman. But - not having another choice - she decides to endure. She decides to try and love her husband, love her child, and "withstand" the storm, while slowly realising that she no longer has anything beside this strength ("something inside has solidified"). While I no way think that Jiang Fengmian can be compared to Henry, I do think Jane Seymour, as portrayed in Six, has a lot of similarities to Madam Yu... the way her pretty much unrequited love for her husband is slowly replaced with her devotion to her son as a mother, the way she fights, and endures, and really shows the world that she has a heart of stone in every way... it does made me think about her strongly.
I hope you enjoy this video: and as always, I do not own anything.
