In this video Doctor O'Donovan explains key things you need to know about BULIMIA NERVOSA - an eating disorder that can affect both men and women.

What is Bulimia?

Bulimia is an eating disorder. People who have bulimia go through periods of binging on food and then purging. Purging could mean vomiting to get rid of the food they have just eaten, or taking laxatives.

What are the symptoms of Bulimia?

1. Eating very large amounts of food in a short time, often in an out-of-control way – this is called binge eating
2. Making yourself vomit, using laxatives or diuretics, fasting, or doing an extreme amount of exercise after a binge to avoid putting on weight – this is called purging
3. Fear of putting on weight
4. Being very critical about your weight and body shape
5. Mood changes – for example, feeling very tense or anxious

There are also physical signs such as tooth damage and Russell's sign.
