I am a Land Cruiser fan.
At some point in my life I had two FJ40's sitting outside my house, I was happy.
Now I continue to overland through the Land Cruiser lineage, stumbling upon a proper 70 Series. This is a 1995 J70 SWB with the iconic 4.2L IDI Diesel. Coming in at 130 hp/210 torque, this engine was built to last and now I have one.
This 4x4 was fresh on the market and I may have been the first to come by for a test drive. A quick look and a couple laps down the street, I knew it was worth sending the mechanic out for an inspection.
With an even 400+ compression on all 6 cylinders and no visible issues, I negotiated a solid deal under market value and picked it up the next day.
Driving straight to a brake specialist for the safety check it was off to the upholstery shop and a direct line to the mechanic.
This will be a long distance restoration as I will not be back down to Costa Rica for a couple months.
I have plans and have started a list.
This appears to be a front and rear e-locker set up but the rear differential seems to have been swapped out for a standard unit, the hanging wiring gives evidence to its formal glory.
