EASY DIY Transmission fluid change on the FORD 6F35 transmission as fitted to the Ford Kuga mk2, Ford Fusion, Ford C-max and Ford Focus. The 6F35 automatic transmission is often in combo with the 1.5L Ecoboost engine.

Ford recommended service intervals for this transmission are very long but there is a design issue, which means the 6F35 internal filter becomes blocked. It isn’t easy to change (not a service item), which leads to the transmission needing to be removed to be repaired. This can be avoided through more regular changes of the Dexron 6/ Dexron VI / Mercon LV transmission fluid.

As mentioned above the Ford 6F35 transmission fluid type is called Dexron VI / Mercon LV. The Ford recommended fluid for the 6F35 is Ford Motorcraft Mercon LV and many owners will only use this fluid. However, there are many other fluids that meet the spec, a few are listed below:

The 6F35 transmission fluid capacity is around 9 quarts / 8.5L but it isn’t easily possible to drain it all. In reality, you will only need 5 Quarts / 5L and that is another reason why it is recommended that the fluid is changed every two years.
