This video goes through a detailed explanation of the workings of an LC oscillating circuit.

An LC oscillator converts a DC supply voltage into an AC output. LC Oscillators are used in many pieces of test equipment and in radio-frequency circuits because of their good phase noise characteristics and their ease of implementation.

The circuit consists of an inductive coil, L and a capacitor, C. The capacitor is charged by the DC supply voltage and stores energy in the electric field between its charged plates. When the capacitor is fully charged the switch changes position so that the charged capacitor is now connected the inductor. The capacitor begins to discharge through the coil and the energy stored in the capacitor is converted to energy stored in the magnetic field of the inductor. Over time this circuit oscillates back and forth.
