In this video I am going to show you 7 of the best ways to save battery and extend the battery life on your Apple Watch without sacrificing key features and functionality. Whether you have a Series 3, SE or Series 6, these tips apply to all models. When I did my Apple Watch review I said that battery life is between 10 to 50 hours of use. A very wide range, this is because battery performance on Apple Watch really depends on what setting you use features you activate. Today I will show you how I setup the setting/features on my Apple Watch, that allow me to comfortably get around 35 hours of use per charge, again, crucially while still maintaining what for me are the features and experience that make the Apple Watch so great. By Default background app refresh is on for all apps. Having all apps running in the background have a substantial impact on battery life. Think about what apps are important to you and what’s apps you actually use on your watch. For example, I use different apps but use no more than around 5 frequently. Only around a third of my apps can run in the background, the rest refreshes when I launch the app. I highly recommend doing this on iPhone too. This bring us to notifications. Each notification that comes in needs to be fetched from your iPhone, this activates the haptic feedback and speaker on the watch, turning on the display the you look at them. If have have say dozens of notifications coming in each day, not only can this be distracting but again will greatly impact battery life. Just like with background app refresh, think of the apps you use and what you want to be notified of. For example I only allow notifications that are useful or important to me, such from messaging apps, certain social media apps, transport and banking. Other apps such as games, camera/photo apps, utility apps, really don’t need notifications. Display Settings, General, Wake Screen. This is how I setup my wake screen settings, I only wake the screen with wrist raise, not wake with crown up. On tap my display turns off after 15 seconds, more than long enough to check the time or read a notification. Seconds Display and Brightness. Speaking of the display, going into the display and brightness settings, I advice you to turn the brightness to medium or low. If you have a series 6 with an always on display, you could consider turning this off and for the series 6, the biggest load on the battery is that always on display. Sound and Haptics. I like to have my watch on silent, not just for battery but because the haptic feedback on the Apple Watch is effective and non intrusive. Activating the speaker less will also serve to preserve battery. Siri. I like Siri and use it every day for reminders, setting timer, turn on the lights etc. However how you activate Siri makes a big difference. I only activate Siri by pressing the digital crown. Having Hey Siri on is just a bit easier but I was shocked to see the difference this makes in battery life. If have this feature activated, the mic is constantly on and listening for the activation phrase, therefore eating battery life. You could also choose to turn off voice feedback. Watch Face. Use a more minimalistic watch face. When the display is on, this is the biggest user of battery life. Because all apple watch models have OLED displays, they can turn off black or unused pixels. Using a more minimal watch face uses less pixels, therefor less battery. Additionally use less complications, each complication works in the background to refresh and fetch data, whether is be activity rings, weather, stocks, heart rate etc). Heart rate monitor. Heart health is a big reason for many to buy an apple watch. Turning off both of one of these settings will extent your battery life further. Importantly, even if you turn these features off, the heart rate monitor will still function through the app and to do manual reading whenever you want. At the end of the day, this is all about finding a balance between the features you value and want to keep activated and the features that are active taking battery but that you don’t really use. The aim is to optimise and get the best of both worlds of battery life and features.
