In this video, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi covers the life and times of 'Umar b. al-Khattab and about the Qur'anic verses and ahadith relating to 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him).

"Among the nations before you there used to be people who were Muhadathoon (Divinely inspired, though they were not prophets). And if there is any of such a person among my followers, it is 'Umar." ~ [Prophet Muhammad SAW • Collected by Sahih al-Bukhari]

The Muslims forever remained in honor when 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was alive and Allah raised the honor of 'Umar by revealing verses in the Qur'an that agreed with what 'Umar said or intended.

Umar's love for following the Sunnah and doing that which is pleasing to Allah and His Messenger was so great that even for the most minute of things he would ask the Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) for advice and guidance, through which today we derive many beneficial fiqh points that we wouldn't have known if Umar had not asked those questions to the Messenger of Allah (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam).
