I know that I'm quite late getting into this fandom but it's been a while since I've watched a show that I liked as much as Our Flag Means Death, so better late than never. In this Max show Stede Bonnet, played by comic Rhys Darby, is a wealthy landowner with a midlife crisis, who ditches his comfortable life to become a pirate. Weirdly enough this story is actually based on a real person, so Stede Bonnet actually existed and became known as the Gentleman Pirate and also created a sort of partnership with the famous pirate Blackbeard, played by Taika Waititi.
This series is all about chosen families and as the show so poetically puts "It is about belonging to something".
Can't wait to hear what you think of the show!
