This island resort was once owned by the Roman Catholic Congregation of St. Basil. The island resort has been abandoned for 16 years. Some structures are in good shape and some have completely collapsed. The island was once Huronia/Huron Territory, and the Crown obtained title in 1856. The island was once a summer resort but closed in 1905.
Father William Roach leased the Island in the summer of 1922 for $300.00 Father William Roach was part of the Roman Catholic Congregation of St. Basil, known as The Basilian Fathers.
He had been a frequent visitor to the island as a young boy. It had left a lasting impression on him. So when he was looking for a private retreat he remembered the Island.
He thought the island would be perfect for the scholars to study without the distractions of the outside world. When they first purchased the island in 1922 there was a motel, dancing pavilion, 6 cottages, boathouse and a large farmhouse that was once owned by George Graham (the islands first full time resident. The holy fathers first challenge was to remove all the bats that lived in the abandoned hotel for years. Every year they continued to remove the bats and it took almost 60 years until aluminum siding was installed and the bat problem ended.
In 2002 Pope John Paul II came to visit the island for a few days. He enjoyed his time on the island.
After 85 years the number of people visiting the island resort declined. The Fathers decided to sell the beautiful Island in 2007.
The 25-acre Island was listed for 5.5 million dollars in 2016 and an 80 condo project was proposed. The developer withdrew the plan then re listed the island in 2020 for 3 million dollars.
The future of the island and buildings is unknown.

About me:
I have been exploring abandoned places since I was a child and now I would like to film the explores and share the videos with you.

My father took me to my first abandoned house when I was 7 years old. I remember going into the house and a old farmer came in and told us "we better watch out as the floors are all rotten and unsafe". Ever since that day I was hooked on exploring abandoned places.

If you have a location you would like to share with me or want me to explore for you please send me an email at [email protected] and I will give you full credit for the share in the description and during the video if you choose.
