Explore one of the UK’s largest winter gardens to gain inspiration for keeping your own green space vibrant throughout the cold months. Join National Trust Gardener Megan Pearson and Volunteer Mike Allen on a tour of Dunham Massey as they reveal more about the colourful plant varieties that grow here and the history of the estate.

Nestled between the vibrant city of Manchester and rural Cheshire, Dunham Massey contains a 300-acre deer park, historic house and formal gardens surrounding a moat. Discover the Winter Garden, which comes alive with thousands of bulbs every January. Swathes of snowdrops, daffodils, irises and dog’s tooth violets add a welcome splash of colour to an otherwise dull part of the year, reminding us that spring will soon be here.

Stroll along the Scented Walk to find perfumed shrubs such as Christmas box and daphne ‘Jacqueline Postill’. Every winter, they overcome the cold to bloom and release their sweet fragrance into the air.
