Fritz Reiner was a Hungarian-born American conductor who emigrated to the USA in 1922 and whose career, by common consent, reached its pinnacle when he became music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 1953. He raised its standards and became world famous through a series of recordings made in RCA's spectacular early "Living Stereo" LPs. We have an excellent example here, the 'Thunder and Lightning' Polka by Johann Strauss II, recorded in 1960.
