🔍 What is SWBST?
The SWBST strategy is a simple method used to help students summarize and understand the key components of a story. By breaking down the narrative into five components:

Somebody: Who is the story about?
Wanted: What did the character want?
But: What was the problem?
So: What did they do about it?
Then: What was the outcome?

🎤 In this video, we'll sing through each element of SWBST with engaging lyrics and a catchy tune that's sure to stick with your students long after the lesson is over. Not only will they learn how to apply this strategy, but they'll also enjoy the process of singing along and maybe even dancing!

💡 Lyrics
Hey kids, come around, I’ve got a cool strategy to share,
It’s a special trick that makes reading stories a breeze.
It’s spelled S-W-B-S-T, unlocking secrets we seek,
To understand and retell tales with the greatest of ease.

"S" stands for "Somebody," the hero of our tale,
In every story we read, their journey we unveil.
"Wanted" something dearly, a wish, a want, a need,
That’s our "W," a dream they’re hoping to achieve.

"But" trouble came a-knocking, our big letter "B,"
A hurdle bold and daunting, as tough as it could be.
"So" they braved a plan of action, our "S" shows their strive,
Courageous and bold, to keep their dreams alive.

"Then" comes our "T," the end of their quest,
Did they get what they wanted? Did they pass the test?
This simple formula, SWBST, helps us track,
The plot of any story, from the front to the back.

So remember S-W-B-S-T, it's simple as can be,
It guides us through the stories, for better clarity.
Next time you read a book, just give this strategy a try,
You'll understand the plot, in the blink of an eye!
