HAPPENING NOW—TRUMP ANNOUNCES SCOTUS PICK: Pres. Trump is in the Rose Garden to announce his choice to replace the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. He is expected to name Amy Coney Barrett, a top choice of religious right and anti-abortion activists. Trump previously nominated her as a federal judge in 2017 even though she had no prior judicial experience. She could be the deciding vote in overturning Roe v. Wade and invalidating the Affordable Care Act, which provides health care to roughly 20 million people. Barrett has referred to abortion as 'always immoral' and was a member of Notre Dame’s Faculty for Life group. She has been openly critical of a 2012 Supreme Court ruling that upheld a core provision of Obamacare. Barrett is affiliated with a religious group called People of Praise, whose female members were assigned to personal advisers known as 'handmaids.' In 2006, she told Notre Dame law school graduates, 'Your legal career is but a means to an end, and... that end is building the kingdom of God.'
