Casting a film is a complicated process. Not only do you have to find the perfect actor. You have to make sure they have the time to be a part of your movie, and of course there’s always negotiations over money. So it’s no surprise that even roles that have since become some of the most iconic performances in Disney history almost went to entirely different people.

It’s hard to imagine anyone but Albert Brooks as Marlin in Finding Nemo or Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story or Mandy Moore as Rapunzel in Tangled. But it very nearly happened. None of these actors were Disney’s first choices for the roles they eventually made their own. In fact actors as far-flung as Joe Pesci, Jim Carrey and William H.
