The Halo trilogy is one of the most revered trilogies of all time, and its impact expands past video games. It spawned a franchise with a virtual library of books, podcasts, Youtube communities, limited series, and even a TV show.
This is evident that the Halo series contains a world, and a story, that fans can’t get enough of.
So, let’s go back and revisit the series. In this retrospective, I'm going to analyze the original Halo series, one game at a time, and the narrative it spins. I’m interested in all the parts that go into a game’s story and how the player experiences it, from the direct script to the worldbuilding to the combat.
In this longform video essay, we'll take a look at how Combat Evolved sets the foundation, Halo 2 builds upon it, and finally how Halo 3 wraps up the story.
