On December 7, 2022, Dr. Laura Mufson of Columbia University offered a free webinar, “It Is All About Relationships: Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Adolescents with Depression” presented by the Alan Hu Foundation. Dr. Mufson explained, “Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Depressed Adolescents (IPT-A) is a 12-15 session individual treatment for adolescents 12-18 years old that focuses on reducing depressive symptoms and improving interpersonal relationships and social functioning. This presentation will provide participants with an overview of IPT-A principles as well as key IPT-A strategies and techniques.”

Laura Mufson, PhD, is the Viola W. Bernard Professor of Medical Psychology in Psychiatry at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) and Associate Director of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry, Columbia University, and Director of Clinical Psychology at New York State Psychiatric Institute. Dr. Mufson has had an active research career studying the efficacy and effectiveness of evidence-based psychotherapies for children and adolescents. She is the author of 3 books and many publications on IPT-A, is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, and has conducted numerous training workshops on IPT-A throughout the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe and Scandinavia.

The free webinar was held on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, from 4:00 – 5:00 pm PT via Zoom. It included 15 minutes for questions and answers following Dr. Mufson’s presentation. The Mental Health Association for Chinese Communities at https://www.mhacc-usa.org provides simultaneous Chinese interpretation.

The Alan Hu Foundation was created by Xiaofang Chen and Chih-Ching Hu in memory of their son, Alan. He passed away due to mental disorders in 2018 at the age of 15. Their mission is to promote mental health, raise awareness and remove stigma surrounding psychiatric disorders, and to support fundamental research for cures.
