Most yugioh decks are centered around a specific archetype, designed to work with itself and other generic cards, but mostly constricted to that archetype’s cards. Decks like Snake-Eyes, Fire King, Blackwings, and a long etcetera fit this description. Then there’s decks that are focused on a specific archetype but make use of non-archetypal cards to a certain extent. This includes Orcust, Tearlaments, Eldlich, and others. But then there’s a weird sub category of decks which make use of majorly non-archetypal cards. These decks were plenty more common earlier in the game’s history, before archetypes became as encompassing as they are now. Strategies such as Frog Monarchs, Disaster Dragon, or Tengu Plants are examples of this, decks that are built on loose synergies between cards instead of written in stone effects and interactions like most modern decks. One of these decks is also one of the oldest: Counter Fairies
