Ad Tech, privacy issues and the future of a global internet: A discussion with Alex Agius Saliba MEP, Fedelma Good (PwC) and Richard Kramer (Arete Research)

Why you should watch: Cynics would say that Google and Apple (and the other US tech giants) want to dictate the rules under which they function. They certainly seem to be doing a pretty good job of keeping one step ahead of the regulators, even though they are pitching their latest restrictions on third party cookies as a defence of consumer privacy. This discussion focuses on the FAANGs' control of the global ad spend, but it also makes very clear that attitudes to privacy (and what we are prepared to pay for on the Internet) are very different in Europe and the US. Indeed, Brussels and Washington may well be on a collision course. The hope is that a sensible compromise can still be reached, but - as the IoT becomes more or less ubiquitous - it is going to be harder and harder to find a way to reconcile the very different demands of major corporations and of regulators.

Moderators: Andrew Hilton (Director, CSFI) & Leighton Hughes (Fintech Lead, CSFI)
