The fear of writing often causes creative blocks that stop writers from unlocking their potential. What if we don’t like what we write? What if others don’t like it? It’s important to believe in yourself and all that you are so that you can have the courage to trust in your own creative abilities.

I compare the fear of writing to the feeling one gets standing at the edge of a high rooftop. For those who simultaneously feel writing anxiety and the desire to write, the process is akin to walking back up to the rooftop again and again, despite the fear that is so strongly felt.

The reason why it’s so important to believe in yourself and all that you are is because your creative potential is far greater than the fear that you feel when faced with a blank page.

By believing in your abilities, you can nurture your creative magic and allow the beauty of expression to take over. Acknowledge the fact that something continues to push you toward writing. When the urge that keeps bringing you back to the page expands and grows, the fear becomes much more manageable.

Returning to the rooftop analogy: when you finally step off the edge, you may be surprised to find that instead of falling, you begin to fly. The more you show up to write every day, the higher you’ll fly. Trust your desire and take those steps; you’ll soon leave your fear of writing far behind, and you’ll discover the beauty that has been trapped inside.

Believe in yourself and all that you are – it’s the way to transform an uncomfortable, hair-raising writing experience into a liberating one.
