In March of 1965 Selma, Alabama was the stage for three marches that helped to pass the Voting Rights Act. The marches were planned to show support for the equal right to vote of African American citizens without any discrimination or repression from segregationist. They planned to walk from Selma to Alabama’s State Capitol in Montgomery. The civil rights demonstrators were led by Martin Luther King, Ralph Abernathy and John Lewis.
