Badgley was once famous for his role in Gossip Girl but has since become the face, and voice, of one of Netflix’s most-watched shows. However, Badgley originally turned down the central role of Joe in the show. In real life, Badgley couldn’t be more different than the psychopathic stalker he portrays in the series. When he was initially approached for the role, he turned it down as he found the character to be an “awful person.” The show’s creators Greg Berlanti and Sara Gamble were pretty persistent and eventually managed to persuade Badgley by talking up Joe’s “human qualities.” Similarly to Badgley, actress Tati Gabrielle, who plays Marianne Bellamy also originally turned down the role, before finally joining the project when she realized that the show she had been asked to star in was none other than You.
