GAMECHANGER OR GIMMICK? WE FIND OUT! | CAB CAM RUN & INCLINE TEST | JUST ADD TAP WATER!
In a nutshell short…

   • Hornby Steam Generator Model Train

IMPORTANT ESSENTIALS & MYTH BUSTING ONCE LOCO IS CONNECTED TO YOUR GADGET SEE BELOW

This is an ‘out of the box, ready to run’ model.

Just add Drinking Tap Water. I always filter mine anyway but, this is not necessary at all and clarified by Hornby.

Procedure as follows…

Fit the single holed, push in chimney supplied, when running with the smoke generator by removing the double chimney.

MYTH DISPELLED! - The Smoke Generator does not need filtered or distilled water. Just like modern household irons no longer require this, neither does the Hornby Smoke Generator. Yes, you could use but, it is not necessary or required. It just needs Tap Water.

This is a brand new Patented Hornby Ultrasonic Device.

No heat is generated.

Add up to 5ml using the pipette provided, away from the track or layout. Angle pipette at 30 degrees into the inlet hole, located by simply removing the Magnetic Smokebox door. You Do Not fill through the chimney stack.

Let the wick in the patented device soak and prime for a couple of minutes. It will then begin releasing steam. This is done by turning your sound function on via the HM|DCC connected app.

A little more water (approx 1.5 ml) can be added after this soak time if required but, do not overfill obviously.

You know the Steam Generator function is on if, the Sound is activated. Be patient. PS. You can't turn the Steam on or off any other way.

Turning the sound off stops the smoke & running with the sound on gives a full boiler a good 30mins of this superb smoke effect. It smokes more at lower speeds and as it would in real life. Obviously more starts & shunts will use more water, coasting less so times will alter slightly.

DO NOT add anything else apart from drinking tap water. NO OILS, NO PAINTS, NO DYE. These would clog it up.

Play around with Safety Valve & Injector sounds etc for added effects. Great fun!

It is not a TRS fitted unit that uses deionised water and is bought through them and fitted by them to your locomotive/s.

The Hornby steam generator only blows steam out of the chimney and not from below, as if coming from the pistons.

Again…

Tap water will Not clog up the system.

This is a new, patented, ultrasonic device. It does not need to heat up, as I initially presumed in the video & have now added subtitles 16:10 & 17:00.

The Water filler inlet port is located by simply removing the tilted back, twin magnetic smokebox door front away from the locomotive, which snap locates back into place as you offer it back up. It's very well made & well designed.

I added approx 4 x 1ml gentle water squirts so, a total load of approx 4ml in the making of this video.

PS As the water is used up the smoke will slowly begin to 'Peter Out' & you'll see this on my last Cab Camera shots filmed from behind but, above the 'Prince Of Wales' looking down the boiler & ahead down the track as it runs from Lofthouse. These shots can be seen & alternate with the looking back at the Loco Cab Cam' view on the first Steam run from Lofthouse Station toward the 'Lovers Leap' Suspension Bridge. In reality these shots were filmed at the end of the 4th run.

Make sure your Locomotive has no water left inside before carrying out any maintenance work & use the pipette to suck out any water residue left in the boiler via the filling port .

Always read the Instructions beforehand.

HAPPY MODELLING!
