Making more than 100 horsepower per litre requires some clever thinking and small tolerances. The K24 engine out of my Honda is a 2.4 liter 4 cylinder that produces only 190 horsepower, which is almost 80 horsepower per liter. That figure can be easily bumped up with the use of forced induction however it complicates things as there are more parts, which means more potential problems. My turbocharged 1.6L MINI cooper from the factory came with more than 200 horsepower, however it isn’t anywhere near as reliable as my Honda engine. For that reason, I’m sticking with a naturally aspirated setup, with upgraded engine components to reach my goal of 300hp. (125hp per liter).

What makes the Frankenstein build so awesome is that you are using a cylinder head out of an earlier K20 that has VTEC found on both intake and exhaust camshafts. It allows the engine to breathe much easier. What makes my build different is I am working with the later K24Z3 R40 engine block (12-15 Civic Si / 08-12 Accord i4 / 09-14 TSX / Acura ILX) and a similar cylinder head that has dual VTEC (K24A2). This isn’t as common or easy as running the better head on a K24A block. It is a bit complicated, however if you do your research, you’ll see why that is.

In this video, I am outlining what is to come, my main goal for the build, and a couple differences between both used engines that I purchased locally. I want to have a complete list of the parts that will be used in this build so that anyone who wants to replicate the build will be able to simply buy the parts and repeat what is to come!
