Hi everyone. Aiden here at etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at the REESE hitch mounted cargo carrier, and seeing how it fits on the back of our 2024 Chevrolet Traverse Limited. Now, a cargo carrier is a great way to get some extra stuff with you on either a road trip, or just carry some messy stuff with you that you don't wanna put in your vehicle, say, trips to the hardware store, bags of mulch, concrete, soil, things that tend to rip and make a mess, you can keep it out here. I know my father-in-law personally uses his a lot for stuff like that, because it's a lot easier to clean this off with the hose than it is to vacuum out the carpet in your vehicle. But this option from REESE is going to be a pretty good entry-level choice, because there's not a whole lot to it, but it does offer you a good amount of space.

To be more specific, the space that you're getting inside dimensions front to back are 24 inches. And from side to side, we're gonna be working with 60 inches. So this is pretty big for a hitch mounted cargo carrier. And paired with that, you've got steel construction and a 500 pound weight capacity. So everything all around's gonna be pretty solid.

The one thing I will say with the weight capacity to keep in mind is that of your vehicle and its hitch. Check your owner's manual, check your hitch, and be sure it can handle that kind of tongue weight before loading this up to its maximum. But the carrier itself will be quite capable. Now, some other things to check out with this. First off you're probably noticing is the ground clearance.

This is going to sit up really high, one, because it has a slight rise in the shank, but because of where the hitch on our Traverse installs behind that bumper panel. So when you're driving around, it's gonna give you a clearance from the ground of about 23 inches, which is pretty impressive, and really good, because when you load this down with cargo, that will cause this to drop a little bit, and you're not gonna be sacrificing valuable ground clearance like you would on some other vehicles. It's gonna be pretty good here. The other thing I like to keep in mind is our breakover point with our hatch. So as you're opening this up, this really applies to, say, going on a road trip, you stack this up with cargo, and you can stack it up 14 inches before you start to have interference with that hatch.

So if you wanna be able to open this up all the way, keep your cargo below 14 inches, then you can get to the back, and access whatever you may still have back here, and operate your vehicle as normal. The other reason I suggest keeping it below that height is so that we don't start blocking things like our license plate as much, and our backup camera. With this sitting up as high as it does, backup camera's gonna be pretty iffy no matter what. So really just watch your mirrors. But with that license plate, we like to keep that visible if we can. The height is also gonna help us with clearance on our exhaust. We're sitting way above those, so no worries about heat-sensitive items. I'd still probably keep them towards the middle of the carrier, and put some less heat sensitive items to the sides, but that's just me, and some other measurements for distance added to the back to check out. From the bumper to the furthest point out on the carrier is 35 and a half inches. And to the closest edge here is 10 inches. So what that translates to is a pretty bulky carrier when you're driving around. There's no folding feature here to save space, so you're pretty much stuck with that added to the back, but plenty of room to get between the carrier to get things out of the back, or hook this up inside that hitch. Speaking of the hitch, it does work with our two inch by two inch receiver tube, and it does not include a pin and clip, so you will need to provide that yourself. But I strongly recommend if you're gonna be picking one up, picking up a locking pin anyway. And if you're considering extra upgrades added to the carrier, you might consider the light kit that can attach to this. Basically, that'll live in the outer face of the carrier, and plug into four-pole wiring on your vehicle. Our neighbor today just got their four-pole wiring installed,
